Q- How can I make the Tags water resistant?
A- There are several ways of making the Tag water resistant and here are 2 effective methods:
1. We have 3 types of splashproof tag housings. Please see which one is most relevant to your needs by viewing our Product List.

2. Place the Tag in a small plastic bag and seal the top using a zip tie. The bag doesn't affect the range.

3. Use silicon sealant for kitchen and bathrooms and put a generous amount along the seal on the Tag and the holes by the buzzer. Click here for a Video example from a customer.

Batteries
Q - What type of batteries are used?
A - The Handheld uses 2 x AAA batteries. Each Tag uses 2 x LR54 or equivalent. Batteries are supplied with all packs.

Q - How long will the batteries last?
A - Battery life will depend on use. Using an example of one locate per day the expected Tag battery life is 9 months. In Alert mode the Tags and Handheld are constantly transmitting to each other to inform as soon as a Tag goes out of the determined safety zone. As this impacts battery life we recommend only switching Alert mode on when you need it. Usually, the batteries in the Handheld will last approximately 2 months in Alert mode. The Handheld will warn you if any batteries need to be replaced.

Q - How do I know when to replace batteries?
A - The Loc8tor will notify you whenever batteries are low using a battery symbol at the top of the Handheld screen. You can push the blue button at any time to view Tag settings which show details of all Tags and battery warnings. You must periodically test the battery of the Tag by activating a 'locate'.

Q - How do I insert new batteries?
A - The Loc8tor Plus Handheld has an easy to remove side cap which gives access to the battery compartment (on the right hand side). Similarly the Tags can be opened using the tip of a pen or other blunt object.

The Loc8tor Pet and the Loc8tor Lite have a slide-off battery compartment (at the back).

Visit www.loc8tor.co.uk/activate to activate and register your device and create a secure and memorable password for future logins into the tracking panel. After registering the device, please visit www.loc8tor.co.uk/login to start tracking the device.

Q.     How do I activate the device?
A.     All you need to do is visit www.loc8tor.co.uk/activate and enter the device IMEI and SIM numbers in the appropriate fields. Enter your Title, Name and Surname, a memorable Password and the country where you are planning to use the device. You will also need to accept the General Terms and Conditions of Sale and Use before you can proceed with your activation. Your unique IMEI and SIM numbers are printed on the card found inside the box containing the Loc8tor GPS.

Q.     Why do I need to register the device?
A.     You will need to register your device on the website to protect your device positions. Your memorable password will secure access to this information.

Q - I have activated my GPS device from the activation page but I am seeing a black screen in the Tracking Panel. How can I fix this?
A - You need to install Microsoft Silverlight on your computer to view the panel properly. Follow the link to go to our Microsoft Silverlight installation guide.

Q.     How long should I expect the Loc8tor GPS battery to last?
A.     On default settings, you can use the Loc8tor GPS continuously for 6 to 10 days. The more frequent you receive locates or SMSs, the more battery life the device uses. You can extend the frequency of the Locate sends to extend battery life. Climate also affects the battery life. If the GPS signal is weak due to clouds or high-rise buildings, the Loc8tor GPS will keep searching for the best GPS signal, thus using power.

Q.     Why do I need to top up?
A.     The Loc8tor GPS will need to send the location of the device to the tracking panel. The SMS and Positions credits are clearly shown on your panel (bottom left hand side of panel). “Locates” uses GPRS technology (General Packet Radio Service) as opposed to the standard GSM used by other GPS trackers on the market. GPRS is far cheaper than GSM. You can also send commands to you Loc8tor GPS from your computer or mobile/cell phone. The device can also send you an SMS with its location. Please bear in mind that it can take up to 24 hours for the credits to be activated on your account.

Q.     How best should I use the product?
A.     This depends on the purpose of use. You can use the Loc8tor GPS to track your pet, your kids on a school trip or with their friends in the park, your teenage kid who just got their driving licence, on motorbikes, on employee vehicles, on a road trip/ holiday or even on your partner if you suspect they are cheating on you. The list is endless! All you need to do is make sure you have enough battery life on the device and enough SMS and Locate credits to last the whole journey.

Q.     Why am I not getting full coverage outside?
A.     Do you mean a poor GPS signal due to thick cloud cover or high-rise buildings or trees? Or are you referring to lack of GSM network? Just like any other GPS product on the market, the device needs a clear line-of-sight with satellites to operate. The GSM network is the same GSM network used for your mobile phone. You will note that some areas are not covered by network providers and reception might be affected. The GPS device does not work in Japan or North Korea but works anywhere else in the world.

Q.     Can I use my mobile/cell phone to track the device?
A.     Yes you can and the best bit is that you do not need the latest expensive phone to do so. Activate this feature then call your device, let the phone ring three times, then hang up. The device will send a text to your phone with the address where the Loc8tor GPS is at (the majority of the GPS trackers on the market today send you just Longitude and Latitude coordinates meaning you will have to manually locate the device using a computer).

Q.     What do I get when I buy Locates?
A.     The device will send you its position at preset intervals. Default settings are set to once every 5 minutes but you can change that to send as frequently as every 10 seconds.

Q.     What do I get when I buy SMS?
A.     SMS (Short Message Service) are sent only when you request the location from the tracking panel or from your mobile phone, when the Panic Button is activated or when the device exits or enters a preset safe zone. You can turn on or off the safe zone or Geo-fences from the tracking panel. You will also use SMS credits when you change settings on your device and when the battery is running low.

Q.     How do I set up Alerts?
A.     The Panic Button and the Geo-fence (Safety zone) features can be activated and set up from your tracking panel. To do so, you will need to enter the device contacts’ numbers or even email address. These are the recipients of the alert messages when the panic button is activated or the device breaches the geo-fence.

Q.     How best should I use the product?
A.     This very versatile tracker can be used on several applications from tracking your pet, your kid on a school outing or out in the park, tracking vehicles (employees’ or partners’) or motor bikes or asset protection. The list is endless! Activate the Panic and the Mobile tracking features to get the most out of the device.

Q.     How can I track the Loc8tor GPS if I am abroad?
A.     Just find a PC with an internet connection, go to www.loc8tor.co.uk/login and enter your IMEI number and your password. You will have the same access as if you are at home. Alternatively, call the device from your mobile to get the current location of the device.

Q.     Is the device water resistant?
A.     The device is certified to withstand the occasional splash. Make sure the USB connection cover is closed properly.
